Every year, Youth Tour participants are chosen to represent his or her state on the Government-In- Action conference by his or her state delegation during the NRECA Youth Tour in Washington, D.C.

The purpose of the Government-In-Action conference is to build leadership and public speaking skills, and to enhance the delegates' knowledge of the energy industry and the cooperative form of business.

Grand Prize

An all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. with other Youth Tour winners from across the state of NM. JMEC will award SIX trips!!

Eligibility

High school juniors or seniors who are children or dependents of active JMEC members are eligible. 

Contest Rules

Judging

Essays will be judged as follows:

  • Subject Content: 50%

  • Grammar & Composition: 30%

  • Originality: 20%

All essays will be judged by the Selection Committee that is appointed by the School Committee. The Selection Committee will select six (6) winners. Winners will be notified by a 2024 date to be determined. In all cases, the decision of the Judges is final.
